Isuzu DPD / DPF Problems

Isuzu DPD Problems experienced universally by Isuzu Truck owners.

Isuzu DPD Problems? If you’ve found this article chances are you’ve been having issues with the DPF on your Isuzu truck. You’ve probably been forced to pull your truck over for a manual regeneration and possibly even experienced a severe derate rendering your truck useless and forcing a trip to the dealer.

The Isuzu DPD (Diesel Particulate Diffuser) also referred to as a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) was first introduced to the Isuzu truck range in 2007 in order to meet Euro IV emissions standards. From 2011 to 2016 the system was retained with slight ‘improvements’ to meet the stricter Euro V standard. Trucks built 2016 onward are running the current Euro VI some of the Euro VI range have done away with DPD and adopted a DOC system. Unfortunately the reliability of the DPD and EGR has proved to be a real downfall to what is otherwise a brilliant truck.

Nationwide Diesel Services assist our clients with accurate diagnostics & repairs to their DPD systems and can educate owners & drivers how to best manage these systems for maximum reliability. In the case of a blocked filter we can also perform industrial DPF Cleaning.

There are several possible causes that usually start out with the DPF regenerating more frequently than normal. The truck may be blowing excessive smoke during regeneration, and the auto regens no longer complete forcing you to perform a manual regeneration. If your trucks experiencing these symptoms book your diagnosis today.

  1. Hi Mate
Just started the DPD issue. You are to far away from me ( Vic ) But can you steer me in the right direction. Isuzu 2011 NQR 450 290 000 Km. First time the manual burn has come on , tried manual burn for 1 hour, did not work. Hand over exhaust , not hot , not working.
I have just taken to my truck to the Isuzu dealer, and as usual they could not find the problem, bring it back next week, we think it could be the injectors. Here we go again, $$$$$$$$$
I took over ownership in 2014 at 100000 km. I started servicing myself because I was tied of paying $1000 for a 16 year old kid to half do the job . Previous history with my dealer is We THINK the PTO switch is faulty $ 500 later no result, I changed it to manual. We THINK the air con problem bla bla bla. $1200 later gave up, no aircon, fault fuel filter , faulty oil filters, electric windows work some of the time, radio/ bluetooth works some of the time, replaced it now it works MOST of the time. new front rotors because it was metal to metal 500 km after a service.
So you can see I am not real confident Can you tell me what I am expecting to find is the problem and cost. Can the DPD be bi pasted.
    Would appreciate your reply

    1. I got exactly same issue and put new filter in already. But the result is still same. Thinking to change injectors.

      1. Hi Jack, a good diagnostic is key. Replacing parts at random can be a very expensive exercise (especially when your talking DPD filters & injectors) Where are you located? If your not local to us I may be able to point you toward the right workshop to diagnose your truck.

        1. Thanks for your reply. I have ready replaced 4x new injectors but the issue is same as before. I am locsted in Melbourne. Could you point me toward the right place who can diagnose it?
          Thanks

  2. Hi.
I have taken my truck in to Isuzu and put a new dpd filter in. I did ask why it has burned out. Would you have an explanation? Truck has done 312000km

    1. Hi Mike, the only way to answer this question accurately is to carry out a diagnostic & investigate for possible cause. I’d be happy to discuss with you if you would like to give us a call on 08 9206 4588.

    1. It sounds like there was an underlying issue that should have been picked up at the time of the DPD replacement. Melted DPD followed by a hole in the piston sounds like a possible failed fuel injector, without inspecting the truck though that’s pure speculation. If you require any assistance please contact us on 08 9206 4588.

We are using the unit in a mountainous road and we prefer to simply turn off the DPD rather than replacing the filter. We are from the northern part of the Philippines and we are still hopeless from help. We tried different mechanic and still they directed us on a wrong direction.
